Family housing
The Housing Services Office (HSO) is composed of three divisions: the Housing Services Office, Unaccompanied Personnel Housing and the Army Residential Communities Initiative division.
The Fort Belvoir HSO is located at 9851 Harding Place, Building 258, Fort Belvoir.
Homes are available to military members from all branches of service assigned to Fort Belvoir and the National Capital Region.
The homes on Fort Belvoir are currently located in 15 villages throughout the 8,656 acres that comprise Fort Belvoir. Five neighborhood offices serve the military families living on Fort Belvoir. Each office provides full-service property management to its neighborhood; however, there may be a wait for both officer and enlisted housing. For information on types of housing and application procedures, call the Fort Belvoir Family Housing Welcome Center at 888-740-9851 or visit the Villages website. The Family Housing Welcome Center is located at 5994 12th St.
Home, bedroom eligibility
All ranks of E-6 and above automatically qualify for a three-bedroom home regardless of their family size. E-1 through E-5 homes are assigned by allowing a maximum of two persons per bedroom. Medical proof of pregnancy qualifies as a dependent.
There is no distinction between new and existing homes. If a home is not available, your name will be placed on a wait list. Your position on the wait list is determined by the date of sign-out/departure from your last duty station and the requested move-in date. The sign-out/departure date from the last duty assignment must be within 30 days of the application date.
A service member may apply for Fort Belvoir housing prior to arrival but must have a copy of their permanent change of station orders. A service member must be physically present and have signed into their unit before signing a lease with the housing office. Visit the HSO website for application forms and requirements.
Single service member housing
McRee Barracks is Fort Belvoir's UPH facility. It consists of six buildings with 404 rooms and seven laundry and day rooms. Currently, all personnel authorized Basic Allowance for Quarters at the “without dependents” rate in the pay grades of E-5 and below are required to live in the barracks. Exceptions to this policy are initiated through a soldier's chain of command.
Arriving personnel should first in-process into their unit and the welcome center, which is located at 5815 20th St., Building 213, second floor, by 9 a.m. on the next duty day.

The specific county websites may provide helpful information. Currently, there is no Cost of Living Allowance entitlement for the Fort Belvoir area even though it is a high cost-of-living area. Rental options
A Department of Defense directive requires that military personnel process through a Housing Referral Office before entering any rental or sales agreement. The Housing Referral Office will provide assistance with locating suitable off-post housing, verifying fair market rental rates, and exploring discounts programs for military families.
All renters should carry renters’ insurance to protect their personal property against fire, theft and other damages. The property owner’s insurance will normally cover the property, but not the renter’s personal property.
Purchase options
The National Capital Region is an expensive area to live, work and play. Generally, housing is less expensive the farther away you live from Washington, D.C.; however, the extended commuting time and costs must be considered when determining where to live.
Housing Referral Office
Off-post housing information and assistance is handled through the Residential Community Liaison Office, co-located with the post Housing Referral Office.
Your point of contact for any problems you may encounter - discrimination complaints, tenant-landlord disputes or any questions or problems about off-post housing - is the Housing Referral Office. Staff is available to assist you on a one-on-one basis in any way possible to make your move to DLA an easy and pleasant one. They can provide a list of rentals with corresponding locator maps and give you information regarding the area in which the facilities are located.
Mobile homes
Although there are some mobile home parks in the area, there are few vacancies and a waiting list of one to two years is common. It is advisable not to ship your mobile home until you can confirm a suitable parking site.
Visit InMyArea.com to search for utility providers based on your zip code. This website serves as a one-stop shop where you can explore your options, compare prices and purchase services.
