Programs and services are available at most installations for children up to age 12. Care may be provided in Child Development Centers, School Age Care Programs, and Family Child Care Homes. Please review the information to find out what programs and services are available at this installation. Please contact the Child and Youth Program point of contact at this installation if you require information, assistance or resources for child care in your local community.
Registration for Child Care is completed through militarychildcare.com (mcc.com). Mcc.com is the one stop place to request care for Child Development Centers (CDC), School Age Care, Summer Camp, and Family Child Care (FCC). The wait for infant and pre-toddler (to two year old) childcare at the CDC can be up to six months for Priority 1.B.2 parents (single active duty and dual active duty) and up to two years for other priorities. Infant spaces with JB Andrews Family Child Care Providers or on the local economy are equally difficult to obtain. 2-5 year old spaces may become available at the CDC and at FCC providers usually within about from 60 days to a year dependent on the family’s priority. Summer Camp also fills quickly. If you are unable to obtain child care in the JB Andrews Programs, Child Care Aware supports fee assistance in programs for active duty military and activated guard and reserve members within the local community. For fee assistance and finding child care on the local economy please visit childcareaware.org.
Family Childcare is operated by individual Family Child Care Providers. Each provider has over 60 hours of training before they open and more professional development training annually. Providers undergo inspections at least monthly; background checks annually; meet immunization requirements for themselves, their families and their pets; complete health assessments for themselves and their pets. Subsidy is available in FCC to so fees for families are the same level as children in the other Child & Youth Programs. For more information please call 301-981-2123.
The Virginia Avenue Center (CDC #1) has been accredited by the National Academy for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 1995. The San Antonio Blvd. Center (CDC #2) became accredited in 1998. The Fetchet Blvd Center (JP Hoyer) became accredited in 2004. All the centers embrace the same philosophy regarding young children and the learning process. Parents are considered an integral part of quality childcare and each center has an active Parent Advisory Board.
The Family Child Care Program (FCC) offers an alternative to center based care in home setting with lower ratios. FCC homes embrace the same philosophy as the CDC’s and the Youth programs. FCC Providers may be accredited individually through the National Association for Family Child Care.
Other programs available include the School Age Programs including Before and After School Programs; Summer Camp Programs, Holiday Camps which are provided through the Youth Center.
All children using any of the above programs must have proof of current immunizations either with a shot record or medical records. For this reason it is highly recommended that these items be hand carried and not packed with shipments. Contact 301-981-2123 or DSN 312-858-2123 for questions on the child development centers. Call 301-981-5430 or DSN 312-858-5430 with questions concerning Youth Programs. Call 301-981-2123 for family child care information.
Respite care is offered through the Exceptional Family Member Program.
Andrews has three child development centers. JB Andrews also has a Family Child Care Program that offers an alternative to center based care and may be able to accommodate families who may be waiting for a space in the center. There is generally a wait for infant care and it is limited. All full time fees in all programs are based on total family income. They currently range from $70 - $160 per week. Contact 301-981-2123 or DSN 312-858-2123.
