ENROLLMENT
Entrance into a prekindergarten program is determined by age, income, and school eligibility. The prekindergarten program will provide a full-day session following the boundary school bell time. Class size is limited to 20 students. As mandated by the State of Maryland, children admitted to the kindergarten program in public schools shall be five (5) years old on or before September 1 of the school year in which they are applying. If you are enrolling your child in a Prince George’s County Public School for the first time, regardless of the grade, you need proof of address, proof of child’s identity, and current medical information to include updated shot records and a current physical. Please visit the PGCPS website ParentVUE Support for Parents and Guardians (pgcps.org) for more information. Please note that while you can prepare for your child’s enrollment by gathering all mandatory documents now, you will need to establish residency before you can enroll.
CHARTER AND SPECIALTY SCHOOLS
PGCPS has a wide variety of public charter and specialty schools and programs. Enrollment is through lottery process and some Specialty Schools may require an audition, test, essay, or other specialty requirements. The enrollment timeline is usually between October-March for the following school year. Access link https://www.pgcps.org/about-pgcps/applications for more information. Please note, you must be a resident to apply for Charter and Specialty Schools.
