With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.
The North Star Inn provides all temporary lodging on JBER. Reservations for lodging should be made as far in advance as possible to insure temporary lodging facilities are available upon arrival, 907-552-2454 or DSN 317-552-2454 or http://af.dodlodging.net/propertys/JB-Elmendorf-Richardson. If the accompanied member and their family do not have a confirmed reservation, they may be issued a non-availability slip to go off base and obtain a hotel/motel in Anchorage. During the summer month's hotel/motels are limited. The lodging office has a referral list of hotels/motels that are within the Temporary Lodging Allowance costs. They can also provide listings of off base hotels/motels that accept pets.
Transient facilities include one, two and three bedroom units for families. These units have everything needed to live comfortably while in a travel status. Each unit has a washer, dryer and complete cooking facility.
Unaccompanied Personnel : Temporary Lodging Allowance is not authorized for single unaccompanied airmen. Single unaccompanied airmen may be housed in temporary hospitality rooms until a permanent dorm room is assigned.
Temporary Lodging Allowance is partial reimbursement to help offset additional expenses incurred while residing in temporary quarters. TLA computations are very complex and involve number of dependents, with/without cooking facilities, amount paid for lodging, basic allowance for housing, basic allowance for subsistence, and cost of living allowance. For additional information, it is recommended to contact the JBER Accounting and Finance Office, as soon as possible after arrival. (See Contacts for commercial and DSN numbers).
Procedures for paying will be explained by the housing office when you apply for TLA. You must apply for a TLA entitlement request, as it is not an automatic entitlement.
There are limited pet friendly family rooms available on JBER on a first come/first serve basis. If there are no pet friendly rooms available, you may obtain a list of local kennels by calling the Lodging office at 907-552-2454 or 907-384-5658.
