With certain military moves, you may find yourself looking for housing that’s a little less permanent before making long-term arrangements. There are several temporary housing options that may be right for you. Explore the information about temporary housing facilities including allowances, lodging rates and eligibility.
Fort Sam Houston
Availability: Single service members and geographic bachelors seeking on-base quarters must contact the billeting office at 210-357-2705, Ext. 5000.
Temporary Lodging Facility: The guest house is privatized and managed by the InterContinental Hotels Group. The regular room fee is $79.50 per night. For reservations or additional information, log onto the IHG Army Hotels website or call 210-357-2705, Ext. 5000. Wounded Warriors and their families have priority for lodging at Fort Sam Houston.
Amenities: The guest house has heat and central air conditioning, and is equipped with a community laundry and kitchen facilities. All rooms have televisions and telephones.
Pets: All IHG facilities are pet friendly. Guests are limited to two pets per room and pets may not exceed 80 pounds. A non-refundable $75 per room cleaning will be charged to the guest's account upon check-in. In addition, there is currently a charge of $7 per night after the first week.
Eligibility: Members are authorized its use on the priorities listed below:
Length of Stay: The maximum length of guest house occupancy for those arriving PCS is 60 days without loss of overall allotment quantity; for those departing in PCS status, it is seven days. Occupancy by all other guests will not exceed seven days.
Lackland Air Force Base
Temporary Lodging Facility: Lackland Air Force Base has four lodging units. They have visiting airmen's quarters, visiting officers’ quarters, the Gateway Inn and lodging at Camp Bullis. Eligibility/Orders: Those who are on orders have top priority. If there are no vacancies in the appropriate lodging facility, the Inns of Lackland have agreements with hotels and motels near the base and downtown to provide temporary housing for those arriving here on official travel status. You will still need to check in at the appropriate military lodging facility to get your non-availability statement.
Availability, Costs, Registration: Lackland's lodging stays very busy. As soon as you get your orders, you should make reservations with lodging. Your sponsor can make reservations for you if you provide a copy of your orders and credit card information. You can register by email or phone with central reservations. The cost of lodging is $41.50 a night for families, $39 a night for single officers and $34.75 a night for single airmen.
Length of Stay (permanent change of station): The length of stay in temporary lodging is limited to30 days. During peak PCS periods, the Inns of Lackland are filled to capacity. However, it is possible to request an extension. It is important to note that only the first 10 days in temporary lodging is reimbursed.
Location: The main central business office is located at the Gateway Lodge at 2235 Andrews, Building 7426, Room 4104. It is open 24 hours a day, seven days a week. The other business office is at 1750 Femoyer St., Building 10203. It is open from 2-10 p.m.
Pet Restrictions: There are seven pet-friendly rooms. Lodging maintains a list of pet-friendly hotels, motels and kennels located in San Antonio. They are all within a reasonable distance of the base.
Single Members Lodging: If your sponsor or first sergeant is not able to find you a room in the permanent-party dormitories upon arrival, you may be housed in the visiting airmen’s quarters up to30 days. Please request and sign a statement that no dormitory space was available to you. This allows you to file for reimbursement of temporary lodging expenses.
Temporary Lodging Facility: The Randolph Lodge has 30 family units and 530 single units. One of the family units is handicap accessible. All rooms are similar and feature a queen-sized bed, a dining table, a TV, a VCR, a clock/radio, a refrigerator, a hair dryer, an iron and ironing board, a microwave and a coffee pot. There is an on-site laundry facility. Cribs, highchairs and rollaway beds are available upon request at no additional charge. All units are non-smoking.
Pets: There are six pet friendly temporary lodging units. The following policy applies:
Check In/Check Out: Check-in time is after 3 p.m.; check-out time is 11 a.m.
