Basic Pay, Basic Allowance for Housing (BAH), and Basic Allowance for Subsistence (BAS) are the fundamental components of military pay. Members who are married or have legitimate dependents are paid at a higher rate.
An official military resource, myPay brings your pay information right to your computer in a secure, user-friendly environment. You can view online many pay items and even make changes to some without completing paper forms. With myPay, you can access your Leave and Earnings Statement (LES), elect whether to receive your LES in paper or electronic format only, make changes to your Thrift Savings Plan, plus more. myPay, formerly E/MSS, connects active duty, reservists, retirees, and DoD civilians to their pay information.
The Military Compensation website addresses military pay and benefits for current members, retirees, and survivors of retirees. Provided by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense for Personnel and Readiness site defines the compensation available to military members.
Advance pay is always an option, however, keep in mind repayments are deducted automatically from the service members pay monthly, reducing his/her income in some cases drastically.
The Everett area has a 1 percent higher cost of living than the State average, and the State of Washington is a higher cost of living than the national average. This is directly reflected in both the cost of rental housing and in the median prices of homes in the area.
Everett is located approximately 28 miles north of Seattle and the cost of living rises the closer you are to Seattle. In the Everett area, apartment rents range from $1700 to $2600 depending on the size of the apartment. Single Family Homes rent in the range of $2100 to $3200 depending on size. Location will also impact the price of both apartments and homes.
Many people in the greater Everett area commute into Seattle for work and the Seattle area regularly makes the list of one the top areas for traffic congestion in the US. However, there is a good system of public transit that includes both bus and train options for commuting into Seattle.
The climate is mild and utility costs for newer apartments and homes are reasonable. Older homes and apartments with electric baseboard heat can be extremely high and should be avoided. Generally, heating with natural gas is the most economical.
If you need emergency financial assistance the Navy Marine Corps Relief Society may be able to assist you. NMCRS also offers Quick Assist Loans of up to $500. Eligible members can receive these funds in as little as 15 minutes. For more information, talk to the local NMCRS at 425-304-3203.
If immediate medical assistance is needed, dial 911 or visit the nearest emergency medical facility. In other emergencies, agencies such as the American Red Cross, Salvation Army, and American Automobile Association can provide assistance.
