Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
A Snohomish County pet license is required for all adult dogs and cats residing in unincorporated Snohomish County. A pet license is required regardless of whether they are kept indoors or outdoors. The Licensing Division is located at 3000 Rockefeller Avenue (Admin West Building, 1st Floor), Everett WA 98201. They can be reached by calling 425-388-3440.
You may apply for a new pet license online.
You may renew an existing pet license online or at various locations listed on the above website. To receive a reduced license fee please provide proof of spay/neuter and/or microchip for each pet.
Leash laws are enforced in the county. There is no pet quarantine. However pets must have certification of current rabies shots and a current health certificate.
Remember to keep all boarding, vaccination, flight, and hotel fees receipts for travel claim as some Pet Travel costs are now reimbursable.
Traveling with pets requires thorough planning. Animals are territorial by nature and will be stressed out during relocation. During relocation keep your pet on a leash or in a portable kennel until they are familiar with their new home. For help arranging pet transportation reguarding Perment Change of Station please contact 425-304-3716. For commercial pet transportation arrangements, you may also call your local Scheduled Airlines Ticket office.
Planning for shipment of your pet includes researching airline requirements and quarantine restriction laws in your new location. You will need to ask the airlines the requirements for size, weight, number of animals, kennel construction, documentation and season of the year limitations. Occasionally small pets can be shipped on military flights but availability and regulations are always changing as well as fees. Check Military Homefront’s Plan My Move program for details on shipping pets.
Many international locations have strict importation laws including extended quarantines and restrictions on breeds or types of animals that can be brought into the country. Carefully research these rules as they could impact your moving schedule. Not only do overseas locations have strict rules but many locations have restrictions on dangerous dogs as well. Review your destination installation's Shipping Pets article for details.
Remember to keep all Pet Travel receipts including boarding, vaccinations, shipping, flights, and hotel fees as some pet travel costs are now reimbursable.
Naval Station Everett does not have veterinary service or boarding facilities. However there are several veterinary facilities and kennels in the surrounding areas. Service members traveling with pets should notify their Sponsor prior to departing for information and locations of services. You can also check the Veterinary Centers of America Animal Hospital for additional assistance. The United States Army Public Health Command has Veterinary Treatment Facilities on most Navy bases. Animals owned by personnel authorized DOD medical care may receive veterinary medical care through an Army Veterinary Treatment Facility. The level of veterinary medical care available through each facility is dependent upon the level of professional and civilian staffing.
You may contact Dogs on Deployment to view their military friendly boarding services and grants to help with pet travel fees.
The Joint-Base Lewis-McChord veterinary center is the closest military veterinary center to Naval Station Everett.
Please keep all pet travel fee receipts as some pet travel expenses are now covred as part of a PCS move.
