Families are required to stay at the Navy Lodge or Navy Gateway Inns and Suites. If space is not available, a statement of nonavailability must be obtained from the Navy Lodge and Navy Gateway Inns and Suites before making arrangements for accommodations in a community TLA facility. A list of approved community TLA facilities along with the agreed upon TLA rate is available at the Housing Service Center.
Unaccompanied personnel ranks E-5 and above, are required to stay at the Navy Gateway Inns and Suites. If space is not available, your second choice will be the Navy Lodge. The Navy Lodge will provide a statement of nonavailability to stay in a hotel on the economy if they have no rooms available.
Temporary Lodging Allowance (TLA) is a benefit that partially covers the cost of temporary lodging for service members and their families when they are required to move into temporary lodging as part of a Permanent Change of Station (PCS) move to an overseas location. It helps offset the higher expenses incurred at these locations while awaiting permanent housing.
Here's a more detailed breakdown:
Purpose:
TLA is designed to partially pay for higher than normal lodging costs when service members and their families occupy temporary lodging outside the United States.
Eligibility:
It is available to service members and their dependents when they are required to move into temporary lodging as part of a PCS move.
When it is available:
TLA is typically available when arriving at or departing from a permanent duty station (PDS) OCONUS (Outside Continental United States), or during other periods as specified in the DOD FMR, Volume 7A, Chapter 68, para. 6804.
How it works:
TLA is calculated as a percentage of the daily per diem rate for the location, but with a maximum daily reimbursement.
Documentation:
To receive TLA, you will likely need to provide documentation such as your orders, lodging receipts, and a TLA validation sheet, according to an Air Force Housing website.
Examples of situations where TLA is used:
The 65 standard rooms feature one QUEEN bed, desk, lounge chair, dresser, color television, in-room safe, free Wi-Fi, free laundry, free in-room coffee service, refrigerator, microwave, iron and ironing board, dresser and private bath. ALTERNATE DAY housekeeping service is provided for all rooms. For further information, you may call our 24-hour front desk at DSN 314-727-1871.
