Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. The military provides a variety of resources and support programs — ranging from educational briefings to morale calls — for your loved ones, children and service members to ease the stress of deployment. Military members may be assigned to a specific installation but support may come from local communities, Yellow Ribbon events or the installation itself.
Naval support activity (Navsta) deployment support programs are designed to help service members and their families navigate the challenges of deployment, both before, during, and after. These programs aim to enhance readiness, promote well-being, and facilitate a smooth reintegration into family life.
Key Components of Navsta Deployment Support Programs:
Pre-Deployment Briefings:
These briefings, often provided by the Fleet and Family Support Center (FFSC), cover topics such as emotional preparation, financial planning, communication strategies, and how to support children during the deployment.
Mid-Deployment Support:
FFSC provides resources and assistance to address the ups and downs of deployment, including stress management, parenting issues, financial concerns, and maintaining communication with deployed service members.
Family Readiness Groups (FRGs):
FRGs provide a platform for families to connect, share experiences, and support each other during the deployment cycle.
Ombudsman Program:
Ombudsmen serve as a communication link between families and the command, providing assistance and support during deployment and reintegration.
Financial Management Support:
FFSC provides resources and assistance to help families manage their finances during deployment, including access to the Servicemembers Civil Relief Act (SCRA) protections.
Counseling Services:
FFSC offers counseling services to address the emotional challenges of deployment for both service members and their families.
In essence, Navsta deployment support programs aim to provide a comprehensive network of resources and assistance to help service members and their families navigate the emotional and practical challenges of deployment.
