When you arrive at your new installation, you’ll need to follow installation-specific procedures. Each installation and service handles in-processing differently. Here, you can find installation-specific guidelines and a list of documents to bring with you when checking- in. Reach out to the contacts provided if you have specific questions.
Upon Arrival
The 24-hour arrival point at Scott is the lodging office. Lodging is located at 460 W. Winters street Building 1812 across from the Dining Facility, Child Development Centers and Metro Link Station. Visitors to Scott Air Force Base can enjoy their stay in the new Visitors Quarters. It features a new 6 story, 284 room, 17 suite lodging facility with 2 conference rooms, an exercise room and Rickenbacker’s Coffee Shop.
Base Newcomers Orientation is hosted by the Military & Family Readiness Center building 1650 and is held every other Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. October through May and every Tuesday beginning at 8 a.m. June through September. Newcomers' Orientation is mandatory for all newly arrived personnel at Scott AFB. Spouses are encouraged to attend Newcomers' Orientation! Please contact the Military & Family Readiness Center at 618-256-8668 for more information on Base Newcomers Orientation.
During inclement weather, if you are scheduled for the Newcomer’s Orientation and there is a 2-hour reporting delay, the orientation will begin at 10 a.m. if the base is “Closed” Newcomers will be canceled and all members will be rescheduled. If you arrive at Scott during a period of inclement weather please call the Scott Straight Talk Information Line at 618-256-7232 to determine if base closures or reporting delays are in effect.
Air Force personnel serviced by host wing Military Personnel Section all 375th and Air Force Tenant Units
On your first duty day after arriving on base, report to your unit Commander's Support Staff for in-processing. Upon in-processing, all members will receive a checklist with agencies/sections to visit in order to in-process the installation. For all newly arrived enlisted first term Airmen, first duty station or assigned to Scott AFB First Term Airmen Center program is mandatory for completion in addition to Base Newcomers Orientation.
For your military or civilian personnel needs the Military Personnel Flight Customer Support Office is located in Building P-10.
Active Duty, Guard, and Reserve personnel assigned to all other units at Scott AFB including U.S. Transportation Command, HQ Air Mobility Command, 18th Air Force, Tanker Airlift Control Center, Surface Deployment and Distribution Command, 932d Airlift Wing Air Force Reserve and the 126th Air Refueling Wing Illinois Air National Guard
All personnel assigned to units not in-processed via the 375th Military Personnel Section should report to their unit orderly room, Commander’s Support Staff, J1 USTRANSCOM personnel or administrative personnel section on their first duty day after arrival. Contact your sponsor or unit administrative offices as indicated in the “Major Unit Listing” of this publication for more detailed reporting instructions.
Upon arrival at Scott AFB, registration into the Defense Biometrics ID System is required for all DOD personnel, retirees, and all active duty, civilian employee, and retiree family members age 16 and older. Registration can be accomplished at three locations on Scott AFB: the 375th Force Support Squadron ID card section in building P-10, the Scott AFB Visitors Center located at the Shiloh Gate on Seibert Rd/Scott Drive and the Base Defense Operations Center located in building 755 on South Drive.
Sponsor Packages are available in elecrtronical format on the Military and Family Readiness Center website at www.scottmfrc.com. Your sponsorship package will prove helpful in becoming acquainted with the base and local community.
If you have not received a sponsor within 60 days of your departure contact your gaining unit using the Major Unit Listing in this publication or the Military & Family Readiness Center at 618-256-8668 or DSN 576-8668.
When you are preparing to travel consider what to bring in your luggage to include all items necessary for duty i.e. utility uniforms, service uniforms, boots and footwear, hats, coats. Also hand carry all paperwork and important records required for in-processing. The following personal documents should also be hand carried not shipped even if not required for travel: all ID cards, passports, social security cards, vehicle registration, proof of vehicle insurance, immunization records for both children and pets, household good shipment records, receipts for new or expensive household items in case a claim must be made, vehicle shipment paperwork and spouse’s employment records and resume.
Temporary living quarters can be reserved by calling the lodging office at 618-256-1844. Lastly, you can contact your sponsor for assistance in reserving quarters. Reservations are recommended to ensure availability. A limited number of pet-friendly temporary lodging facility units are available for an additional fee of $10 per night. Proof of your pet's immunizations is required at check-in. A list of available kennels in the local area is available from the front desk staff.
For mail delivery you may request a Postal Service Center box in advance 30 days prior for stateside and 45 days prior for overseas by sending or faxing your permanent change of station orders or by having your sponsor drop off a copy. Those assigned to the dormitory may be assigned a temporary PSC box until you check into the dorms at which time you will be assigned a box at your dorm. This box is available for 120 days at no charge to the member however it must be closed out as soon as a permanent residence is obtained. If you experience an emergency while en-route to Scott the Air Force Aid Society or your service's relief agency is available to assist you at the Military and Family Readiness Center. From 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday call 618-256-8668. After duty hours call the Command Post at 618-256-5891. While en-route contact the relief society representative at the military base closest to you in the event of an emergency. The American Red Cross can also provide Army Emergency Relief, Navy Marine Corps Relief or Air Force Aid Society assistance if your emergency occurs away from a military installation. The American Red Cross can be contacted at 1 (800) 733-2767.
Whether you are single or married make sure you request a sponsor if you don't already have one. Contact your gaining unit's Commander's Support Staff for a sponsor. If you still do not receive a sponsor or have questions contact your current or gaining Military and Family Readiness Center for assistance. Your sponsor will be able to tell you about your new unit, the local area and give you contact information to reach him/her. You will receive a Welcome Package with information on housing, base facilities and programs and the local community.
Single airmen should coordinate with their sponsor or the First Sergeant to ensure a dorm room is secured prior to arrival.

Families arriving on permanent change of station orders may stay in one of the Temporary Lodging Facilities for up to 30 days space permitting. Some of the units are pet friendly and guests utilizing these quarters incur a pet fee. Guests must abide by the Air Force Lodging Pet policy and provide proof for all vaccinations at the time of check-in.
If you get married before you PCS, you MUST inform your commander and follow the procedures exactly as prescribed. The military will not pay for travel and housing expenses of your spouse if you do not follow proper procedures. For questions, contact the Military Personnel Flight at: 618-256-3894.
