If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. The Scott AFB Education and Training Center provides educational opportunities to enhance the professional and personal development of all Airmen.
Professional guidance counseling and academic advising services are available in group and individual formats.
The Scott AFB Education Office offers the following services: College and Career Counseling, Tuition Assistance for Active Duty Military, Community College of the Air Force Advising, GI Bill Benefit Information, Commissioning Program Guidance, Transition Assistance Program Education Track Seminars, and Skillbridge Internship, Apprenticeship and On-the-Job Training Program Opportunities.
The Scott AFB Testing Office provides testing services to support recruitment, readiness, retention, and transition. The testing office offers military exams, academic, and professional military education exams in the following areas:
Military Exams: Armed Forces Classification Test (AFCT), Air Force Officer Qualifying Test (AFOQT), Enlisted Pilot Qualification Testing (EPQT), Test of Basic Aviation Skills (TBAS), Tailored Adaptive Personality Assessment System (TAPAS), Electronic Data Processing Test (EDPT), and Weighted Airman Promotion System (WAPS) Test.
Academic and Professional Military Education Exams: Air Force Reading Abilities Test (AFRAT), Career Development Course (CDC), Defense Language Aptitude Battery (DLAB), Defense Language Proficiency Test (DLPT), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Oral Proficiency Exam (OPI), Professional Military Education (PME), and Typing.
The Base Training Office manages the mandatory OJT, formal military training, civilian training, in-residence PME and ancillary training programs, including identification and tracking of base-wide requirements.
The Scott Education Center also has an excellent off-duty education program. Six regionally accredited institutions offer on-base degree programs in a variety of subject areas. The on-base courses are available to active-duty military personnel, Guard and Reserve members, retired military personnel, Department of Defense civilians, military family members, and other civilians on a space-available basis. In addition to on-base programs, there are numerous academic and vocational-technical institutions within commuting distance. Information is also available on distance learning degree programs through accredited institutions.
