It’s likely that employment will change when a move occurs, especially for military spouses. The information below will provide you with employment assistance information and resources available such as SECO, MyCAA and MSEP Portals.
For current employment vacancies, business opportunities and self-employment information, contact the Scott Military and Family Readiness Center staff as soon as you are notified of the assignment. Attend workshops and individual appointments related to resume preparation, job searching, interviewing, etc. You may want to request an appointment with the Employment Program Manager to have your resume reviewed as you begin your job search. Upon arrival at Scott Air Force Base, visit the M & FRC website (scottmfrc.com) for the latest job information and to attend our Spouse Employment Orientation. Individual appointments are also available. The M&FRC will assist you in establishing career goals and objectives, training and education information, developing and refining resumes and interviewing skills, and direct you to job leads and resources. The M&FRC has a website for transitioning service members and spouses to assist them in finding employment. Employment opportunities mirror the national average in the St. Louis and Metro East area. The area's average unemployment rate for St. Clair County is 4%. The region's main industries include aviation, biotechnology, chemicals, electrical utilities, food and beverage manufacturing, refining, research, telecommunications, and transportation. To apply for Air Force civil service positions, visit USAJOBS. M&FRC staff are also available to assist with understanding the federal application process. The M&FRC offers a monthly federal employment workshop. Employees of Non appropriated fund activities are hired through the NAF Human Resources office located in Building P-10, room C100, on Heritage Drive. This is the same building as Finance and Military Personnel. Customer service hours are 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Spouses seeking employment can contact the M&FRC for local employment information and resume assistance. In addition, the Discovery Center, located inside the M&FRC, is available from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. and offers computer access, local job information, a scanner, fax and copier to aid in your employment search.
For job hunting purposes, be sure to bring all employment records and information, resumes, transcripts, certificates, licenses, SF-50s, and DD-214s with you.

The Military and Family Readiness Center provides services to assist separating/retiring military personnel, including reservists/guardsmen, and their family members as they prepare to transition to the civilian workforce. The Transition Assistance Program, or TAP, conducts a three-day comprehensive workshop, designed to educate members on a variety of transition related topics such as financial/personal planning and adjustment, resume writing, interviewing/networking skills, identifying transferrable skills, and Veterans Affairs benefits, services and entrepreneurship. This information is presented by trained workshop facilitators from the Illinois Department of Employment Security, Department of Labor contractors, M&FRC staff and other veterans assistance organizations. The M&FRC also hosts a variety of job fairs and hiring/networking events for transitioning members and their family members.
