Emergency Assistance Overview

If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.

Victim Assistance

If you or someone you know is a victim and needs support, it is here for you. Support is available for a variety of offenses.

Family Advocacy Program can assist in cases where family maltreatment or domestic violence has occurred. DSN 452-8279 or Comm: 011-49-6565-61-8279

Air Force Aid Society (AFAS)

The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) can provide emergency financial assistance based upon need, through a variety of no interest loans and grants.

Categories of financial assistance may include:

Basic living expenses (food, shelter, utilities)
Medical and dental care (case-by-case basis)
Funeral expenses
Essential vehicle repairs
Travel emergencies (PCS-ing personnel)
Pay/allotment problems
Disasters

If you are in need of AFAS assistance, your starting point will be to request assistance on the Air Force Aid Society Website. You can also stop by the Military & Family Readiness Center (Building 307) for additional guidance or call DSN 452-6422 or COMM: 06565-61-6422. For emergencies occurring outside of normal operating hours, please contact your First Sergeant or the American Red Cross.

Important Documents

Ensure you hand-carry important papers and documents, such as:

Passports
Birth Certificates
Marriage Certificates
School records for children
Medical records
Social Security cards
Any POA's
Car title/shipping documents
and other documents you deem as important.

Do not ship these items in your household goods.

Prior to leaving your installation make sure you have emergency phone numbers with you such as the First Sergeant/Commander Support Staff at both your losing and gaining installations. You still belong to your losing base until you in-process at Spangdahlem AB. Ensure that you have a way to contact your sponsor while enroute.
