Programs and services are available at most installations for children up to age 12. Care may be provided in Child Development Centers, School Age Care Programs, and Family Child Care Homes. Please review the information to find out what programs and services are available at this installation. Please contact the Child and Youth Program point of contact at this installation if you require information, assistance or resources for child care in your local community.
FCC homes are licensed Child Care providers that can be found both on and off base.

The CDC is available to children of all Active-Duty military, DoD Civilians, Reservist on Active-Duty orders, and DoD Contractors. The CDC is accredited by NAEYC (National Association for the Education of Young Children) and follows the standards set by the Air Force Services Agency and utilizes developmentally appropriate practices to stimulate all areas of development.

Priority Care for CDC and School Age Program (SAP)
The CDC and SAP programs are established for children 6 weeks through 12 years of age. Eligibility and priority are established through Air Force Instructions 34-144. Priorities are as follows:
NOTE: Due to the lack of off-base child care providers, it is highly recommended that you take action on securing child care before you move to Spangdahlem. We encourage you to contact the Child Development Center or School Age Program as soon as you know you have orders so your children can be placed on the appropriate wait list. The Family Child Care (FCC) Program provides another option. FCC caregivers and homes are certified and available for full-time, part-time, weekend, drop-in, swing-shift and before and after school care. Please visit militarychildcare.com for more information.

The SAP provides before and after school care for children who are currently enrolled in school, ages 5 (enrolled in kindergarten) to 12 years old. The program offers a wide range of growth and developmental activities to children that complement, rather than duplicate, the school day. You must be enrolled in this program to participate.
Drop-in care is offered on a space-available bases.

Give Parents A Break (GPAB)
The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) recognizes that Air Force families are subject to unique stresses due to the nature of military life such as deployments, remote tours of duty, extended working hours, etc. The purpose of this program is to offer eligible Active Duty Air Force parents a few hours break from the daily stressors of parenting. Families may use this time to suit their personal needs.
Child care is provided by FCC.
