Contact information for key programs and services at this installation.
Health care services provided by the Defense Department are available to you and your family at your installation. We know that finding the right health care is important, especially in special circumstances such as emergency or during recent move. Here, you’ll find information and options about the services you have regarding healthcare.
The Spangdahlem Medical Clinic provides primary medical and dental care, internal medicine, flight medicine, and life skills support. Please note, emergency services are not available at the clinic on base.
Medical services are available to civilian and contractor employees for a fee. Retirees, civilians, contractors and their family members can be seen at the 52nd medical and dental clinics on a limited space-available basis only.
If your family is currently enrolled in the family member dental plan, do not disenroll before leaving your current location. Keeping your enrollment active will allow dental coverage to be immediate upon arrival at Spangdahlem Air Base.
Active-duty service members and their command sponsored dependents will be enrolled into TRICARE Overseas Prime EurAsia during base Newcomer's Orientation. A representative from the medical group will assist members in filling out enrollment forms and collect any hand-carried medical/dental records.
Installation Hospitals
The 52nd Medical Group located on Spangdahlem Air Base provides primary medical and dental care, pediatrics, women’s health, flight medicine, mental health, family advocacy, the New Parent Support Program and Educational and Developmental Intervention Services.
Medical services are available to civilian and contractor employees for a fee. Retirees, non-command sponsored dependents, civilians, contractors and their family members can be seen at the 52nd Medical and Dental Clinics on a Space-Available basis only, which is extremely limited.
Due to a recent transition from a hospital to a clinic, family members do have access to routine care, but in many cases, they will be referred off base to the four local hospitals especially for emergency care. Patient Liaison Officers are on staff at each hospital to assist you with language or other concerns. Hospitals include:
* Marienhausklinik, Bitburg
* St. Elisabeth Krankenhaus, Wittlich
* Klinikum Mutterhaus der Borromaerinnen, Trier
* Krankenhaus der Barmherzigen Bruder, Trier
Emergency Dental Care
Dental sick call is by appointment. Appointments are generally scheduled within 24 hours of calling. The after-hours dental advice line can be reached through the main medical appointment line DSN: 314-452-8333.
Family Member Dental Care
Military members are highly encouraged to have their family members enrolled in the TRICARE Family Member Dental Plan. If you are already enrolled, you will automatically be covered at your new overseas base. There are several dentists in the local area that are part of the TRICARE Dental Network. For additional information, visit the TRICARE website https://www.uccitdp.com/dtwdws/member/landing.xhtml .
Pharmacy
Please make note that as of January 2013, prescription medications and nutritional supplements cannot be mailed into your German Army post office address. The 52D MDG along with the Defense Commissary Agency and the Army Air Force Exchange Service have expanded stock of these type items locally to address this issue. Additionally, the 52 MDG Pharmacy has launched a Self-Initiated Care Kit program that enables you, upon enrollment, to pick up some over-the-counter medications. Details on this program are covered during the Wednesday Newcomer's Orientation.
When you move, TRICARE moves with you. No matter where you go in the world, TRICARE is there before, during and when you get to your next duty station.
There are steps you need to take to make sure changes to your TRICARE coverage go smoothly. Understand that when you move, you may have to use a different TRICARE option. Visit TRICARE Moving to learn more.
Before you move, you should take care of any routine medical needs, including immunizations, and fill your prescriptions so you have enough while traveling. If you need care during your move, visit TRICARE Getting Care When Traveling to learn what to do.
Filling prescriptions while traveling
You should refill prescriptions before traveling. But if you run out of a prescription drug while traveling, visit TRICARE Filling Prescriptions When Traveling.
Getting dental care while traveling
Getting dental care while traveling depends on your location and whether you are a service member or family member.
With permanent change of station orders, ask for a copy of your medical and dental records from your military treatment facility and the dental treatment facility. Do this at least one month before your PCS date. The MTF should also transfer a copy of your record and any family records to your new duty station or you may be able to hand carry them to your new duty station.
If you want someone else to be able to get medical or dental information on you or your family while you are moving, you need to complete a DD Form 2870, "Authorization for Disclosure of Medical or Dental Information."
For more information on getting copies of medical records, visit TRICARE Request Copies of Medical Records.
