Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. The military provides a variety of resources and support programs — ranging from educational briefings to morale calls — for your loved ones, children and service members to ease the stress of deployment. Military members may be assigned to a specific installation but support may come from local communities, Yellow Ribbon events or the installation itself.
Spangdahlem Air Base is at the forefront of the war on terrorism. We must be ready to deploy at a moment’s notice. To help you and your family during these times, the Readiness Program provides assistance and support to families during times of local or national emergency mobilization, deployment or evacuation.
The Readiness Non-Commissioned Officer at the Military and Family Readiness Center (M&FRC) can provide the tools and resources to prepare active-duty members and their families for deployments, periods of separation and reuniting with family members following deployments. The Readiness Program supports family members during deployments by providing a full range of activities/programs incorporating wing helping agencies and the Key Spouse Program.
We offer a variety of activities for deployed and short-tour families, including quarterly deployed-family events hosted in partnership with several of the base agencies such as the local USO, Red Cross and many others.
Pre-deployment briefings: one-hour brief
The M&FRC offers pre-deployment briefings every Tuesday. When scheduled to deploy, it is vital to have your personal and family affairs in order. The Pre-deployment brief is a mandatory briefing which provide information and support during all phases of deployment for all active-duty members deploying or going on temporary duty travel for longer than 30 days. Spouses and other family members are encouraged to attend. In addition, briefings may be conducted at your unit for larger groups upon request.
Reintegration briefings: one-hour brief
The M&FRC offers mandatory reintegration briefings every Tuesday upon the service member's return from a deployment, extended TDY or remote tour. In addition, briefings may be conducted at your unit for larger groups upon request. Spouses are highly encouraged to attend.
Support Groups
Key Spouses are volunteers who serve as the primary liaison between the unit and the families of service members who are deployed. Key Spouses are appointed by the unit commander and keep leadership (commanders and first sergeants) informed about the welfare of the deployed families within their units. They may also provide information to families about the squadron and programs around the base.
