Moving with Pets
Moving with pets
When you’re preparing for a military move, your pet is part of the family. Moving with a pet can add another layer of complexity to your plans, especially if you’re moving overseas. The first step in moving with pets is, “Know Before You Go”.
Learn about pet regulations in your new community well in advance of your move which includes educating yourself on:
If traveling by car, determine in advance which hotels along the way will accept pets. Some families find it best to stay at campgrounds rather than hotels. A list of pet-friendly hotels maybe found by searching the internet.
If you are traveling by air, ensure you are aware and educated on air travel rules and regulations.
Effective February 21, 2025, service members who are unable to take their pet to their next permanent duty station may be authorized reimbursement for the cost of pet transportation to an alternative location or designated place.
A service member may be authorized allowances associated with the costs of moving with one household pet. For moves within CONUS, the service member may be reimbursed up to $550 and for OCONUS, up to $2,000.
Pet Boarding
If you will be arriving with a pet it is highly recommended you make reservations to board your pet as soon as you know your arrival date. The Tyndall AFB Veterinary Clinic does not offer boarding services.
Please search the internet for pet-friendly hotels in the local area. There are several pet boarding facilities in the Bay County area. The average cost to board a pet is between $40 and $75 per day. Boarding rates are dependent on the size and/or breed of the pet. Contact your sponsor for information on local kennels/boarding facilities in the local area. All pet boarding facilities require your pet's current immunization records for boarding.
