Services are designed to focus on money management issues throughout your active-duty lifecycle and into retirement. Prior to a permanent change of station move, financial planning is important. The cost of a move can add up, especially when moving overseas.
On-post housing is plentiful for active-duty personnel, so the need for off-post accommodations is rarely necessary. However, because of the small size of our Commissary and Post Exchange, shopping off post to purchase needed items is often necessary. Your monthly Cost of Living Allowance will help offset the cost of purchasing on the local economy, but it is important to keep in mind: Your COLA is intended for this purpose and should not be viewed as additional salary. The amount varies, depending on the current exchange rate, and will be gone once you PCS from the overseas area.
