It’s likely that employment will change when a move occurs, especially for military spouses. The information below will provide you with employment assistance information and resources available such as SECO, MyCAA and MSEP Portals.
Employment Overview
The Garmisch-Partenkirchen community is small so employment can be a challenge, but not impossible. Possibilities for work on post are with the federal service General Schedule, Non-Appropriated Fund (jobs within Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation, primarily in the child and youth areas), the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, Department of Defense Dependent Schools, the Community Bank and the Credit Union. Jobs may also be available at the Edelweiss Lodge and Resort and/or in its hospitality areas. Occasionally, there are contract positions as well.
Job opportunities on the local economy or with a company operating under German laws are uncommon as Garmisch is small and fluency in the German language is generally a requirement. However, as members of the U.S. forces in Europe covered under the Status of Forces Agreement, a work permit is not required should you decide to explore the possibilities.
Job listings are found on the USAJobs website. AAFES positions can be found on their website or by contacting the store manager.
Questions and concerns can be directed to the ACS Employment Program Manager by calling011-49-8821-750-3572/3777 or DSN 314-440-3572/3777.
Stop by Army Community Service to speak with the coordinator for more information and guidance on applying for employment in the community.
