Check-in Procedures

The United States Army Garrison Bavaria - Garmisch community In- and Out-Processing Center is located at our main USAG Bavaria, Grafenwoehr location.

However, as a Service Member or Civilian, your gaining organization will arrange for your in-processing. Any questions you have prior to arrival should be addressed to your sponsor.

Garmisch has a Military Personnel Division office. Should you have any questions particularly relating to Garmisch, you may reach out to the MPD team Lead at CIV: +49 9641-70-521-3345/3737 or DSN: 314-521-3345/3737.

Prior to your travels to Garmisch, your sponsor will provide all the information needed for your arrival. With a copy of your orders, they will contact the housing office to make the initial arrangements. Quarters are generally available for all active-duty personnel; however, depending on rank and bedroom requirement and ongoing renovation projects, there could be a wait. Should that be the case, deferred travel may be necessary as temporary quarters are not available.

Civilian employees will also be assigned a sponsor, and the same applies. If you have not made contact with your sponsor, contact your gaining organization or Army Community Service.  An initial appointment will be made for you with the Housing Referral Office which will assist with your house or apartment hunting. Communicate with your sponsor to assist with finding temporary accommodations on the local economy.  Garmisch and Oberammergau are both vacation areas and abound with guest accommodations from hotels to vacation apartments.

Your sponsor will also arrange a post office box for you to allow for prompt change of address notification and advance mailing of needed items should you so desire.

The Sponsorship Program is available in both the Garmisch-Partenkirchen and Oberammergau communities.   

It is rare that anyone arrives without prior notice. If you are on assignment or have accepted a position and have not been contacted by your sponsor, please contact your gaining organization or the Army Community Service Garmisch Satellite Center at CIV: 09641-70-521-3572 or DSN: 314-521-3572.

Child and Youth sponsorship is available through the School Liaison Officer (SLO).  The SLO may be contacted at CIV: +49 9641-70-521-2393 or DSN: 314-521-2393.

If you get married before you complete your PCS, you must inform your command to request command sponsorship for your new spouse and follow the procedures exactly as you are given them. Your new spouse must be command sponsored prior to being eligible for any military funded travel, housing or other allowances. Depending on the circumstances, it may be necessary for your new spouse to join you at your new assignment after command sponsorship is received.

Without command sponsorship, there are certain benefits that may not be available to your spouse.
