If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. The Education Center provides the following services to all active duty military: counseling and tuition assistance; DANTES tests for college credit or professional certification; classes in Functional Academic Skills Training (FAST); enrollment in army correspondence courses; headstart Italian; college reference catalogs for most universities in CONUS. Most DANTES testing is available for civilians on a fee basis. Classes and information resources are available to all.The FAST (Functional Academic Skills Training) class is for service members desiring to raise their personal AFCT-GT score, or just brush up on math and reading skills. The Army Learning Center offers study materials in preparation for the GT portion of the ASVAB/AFCT test. A pre-test is available; required for those enrolled in the class. Military personnel and civilians are welcome to receive instruction through the Learning Center.Army Correspondence Course - Army Correspondence enrollment is now done on the Internet. Potential students can view the course catalog, register, and enroll via the web. Assistance is available at the Army Learning CenterArmy Learning Center (ALC)/MOS Library has a collection of military training manuals and regulations, as well as information on Army Correspondence Courses and other advancement programs, and 2 student-use computers. Credit-by-exam study guides are also available for loan.

Both the University of Maryland University College, 011-39-0444-71-4826/DSN: 314-646--4826, and Central Texas College, 011-39-71-4832/DSN: 314-646-4832, offer degree programs and classes on-post or via distance education.
Tuition Assistance Program. The Tuition Assistance (TA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a service member's professional and personal self-development goals. All service members (officers, warrant officers and enlisted) on active duty and National Guard and Army Reserve on active duty pursuant to Title 10 or Title 32 U.S. Code, are authorized to participate in the TA program. Active duty members of other services who are supported by the Army under provisions of an Inter-service Support Agreement are also eligible.Before obtaining TA, service members must contact an education counselor to declare an educational goal and an education plan. The Army Continuing Education System (ACES) requires that a degree plan be in the Service member's Education File. Service members who do not have a degree plan must contact the counselor at the Education Center.
