Department of Defense Education Activity (DoDEA) operates 160 schools in 8 Districts located in 11 foreign countries, 7 states, and 2 territories across 10 time zones. All schools within DoDEA are fully accredited by multiple U.S. accreditation agencies. For more information, visit www.DoDEA.edu.
Livorno Elementary/Middle School (K-8th Grades) is located on base. It is a small school with multi-grade classrooms and lower than average class sizes. It is categorized as a Level 0 in regards to the level of support available for students enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP).

It is categorized as a Level 0 in regards to the level of support available for students enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP). Students attending grades 9 - 12 will have Non DoD School Programs (NDSP) options (i.e. boarding school, the International School of Florence (ISF), The Canadian School of Florence (CSF) or homeschooling). Currently Busing is provided from Camp Darby and the Florence based schools. Please be aware that ISF and CSF are located 90 minutes from Camp Darby. Parents are responsible for contacting the schools and completing an application for admission. Admission is by selection and the garrison has no authority in this matter. Important information for parents with children in grades 9 - 12 -- All incoming personnel should be aware that students in grades 9-12 have the following NDSP educational options:
Sponsors should review program guidance for the Non DoD Schools program online. Registration information is available under "First Steps for Parents". Registration must be completed before committing government funds. Parents are encouraged to contact the Non DoD Schools Program for further information regarding educational options.

Evaluation of military experience for civilian college credit using the Joint Service Transcript (JST)
The Education Center provides the following services to all active duty military: counseling and tuition assistance; DANTES tests for college credit or professional certification; BSEP (Basic Skills Education Program); college reference catalogs for most universities in CONUS. Most DANTES testing is available for civilians on a fee basis. Classes and information resources are available to all.
The BSEP (Basic Skills Education Program) class is for service members desiring to raise their personal AFCT-GT score, or just brush up on math and reading skills. A pre-test is required for those enrolled in the class.
The Tuition Assistance (TA) program provides financial assistance for voluntary off-duty education programs in support of a service member's professional and personal self-development goals. All service members (officers, warrant officers and enlisted) on active duty and National Guard and Army Reserve on active duty pursuant to Title 10 or Title 32 U.S. Code, are authorized to participate in the TA program. Active duty members of other services who are supported by the Army under provisions of an Inter-service Support Agreement are also eligible.
Before obtaining TA, service members must contact an education counselor to declare an educational goal and an education plan. The Army Continuing Education System (ACES) requires that a degree plan be in the Service member's Education File. Service members who do not have a degree plan must contact the counselor at the Education Center.
Credentialing Assistance (CA) Program provides funding for voluntary off-duty courses and/or exams leading to an industry-recognized academic or vocational credential.

CLEP and DSST exams are available to all active duty military service members, eligible civilian employees and, on a space available basis to all other examinees who have a valid US military/dependent ID card. Initial CLEP and DSST at no cost for active duty service members and retests and exams for all other eligible examinees are available for a fee.

To schedule an Army Personnel Test, you must prepare a DA Form 4187 and have it digitally signed by your unit commander. APT and DANTES tests offered at the Vicenza APT Test include:

Bus Service
The transportation office in Camp Darby provides daily school bus transportation for students who live in the established commuting area. There are no fees charged to families for this service. Transportation is provided for High School students to Florence.
