If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. Associate, Bachelor and Masters degree programs are offered from a variety of universities and colleges. When traditional programs do not fit into your schedule, video and distance education courses are offered. The Education Center has various college and university representatives offering undergraduate and graduate programs. Tuition assistance is available for service members and family members on a limited basis. Spouses and dependents of Active Duty and Retired Military will find very generous tuition/grant assistance though their perspective Emergency Relief Societies.

Stuttgart offers an excellent opportunity for continuing your education while in Germany. A briefing by an Education Center Representative is part of the one week long Inprocessing Training offered at the Central Processing Facility. Contact the Education Center, located on Panzer Kaserne, Building 2915, 4th floor, room 407/408 for detailed educational opportunities in the Stuttgart and surrounding area.
The Army Continuing Education System (ACES) is dedicated to improving the combat readiness of the Total Army by planning, resourcing, and implementing educational programs and services to support the professional and personal development of quality service members, adult family members and Department of Defense civilians. To this end, we have set ourselves service commitment standards, indicated below in parentheses as maximum customer waiting periods. Group counseling (in-processing and for units) is designed to give our customers a broad overview of our services, whereas individual counseling is tailored to individual needs, aimed to give customers direction for educational development during in-service periods and also thereafter.
Functional Academic Skills Training (FAST), designed to assist soldiers in their efforts to improve ASVAB/AFCT test scores, broadens career opportunities in the areas of promotion and job changes. (60 days)
Army Personnel Testing (APT), which includes the Defense Language Aptitude Battery, the Selection Instrument Flight Test, and the Defense Language Proficiency Tests, likewise plays a major role in career opportunities of Service Members and DoD Civilians. Such tests are available weekly throughout the year. (APT testing 20 days, APT test results 5 working days)
College enrollments contribute primarily to personal development of Service Members and adult family members as does participation in the CLEP/DANTES/SAT/ACT testing programs, providing our customers opportunities to accelerate progress toward degree completion.
