Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. The military provides a variety of resources and support programs — ranging from educational briefings to morale calls — for your loved ones, children and service members to ease the stress of deployment. Military members may be assigned to a specific installation but support may come from local communities, Yellow Ribbon events or the installation itself.
The emotions connected with both long- and short-term separations are many, and they vary from family to family. It is important to be prepared for all aspects of the separation. Make sure you and your spouse know the location of important papers; have powers of attorney, if needed; clarify financial obligations and, most importantly, communicate your feelings about separation and encourage other family members to do the same.
Deployment/Family Support Services (Army Community Service)
Contact your local Army Community Service for information to help you organize important information and to learn strategies for meeting the challenge of a geographical separation. For more information or support, call DSN 314-596-3649/3362 or 011-49-9641-70-596-3649/3362.
The Mobilization and Deployment Program assists deploying and returning troops by providing pre-deployment briefings and Soldier Readiness Program processing, and keeps commanders abreast of major problems affecting families of either mobilized or deployed soldiers and civilians. It also conducts Rear Detachment personnel training. Additionally, the Mob/Dep Specialist provides support to waiting spouses and training and support for Family Readiness Groups. These groups are a gateway to other support agencies within the garrison, and may be contacted through the sponsor's unit.
The Mob/Dep Specialist also provides help to single parents, dual military couples and dual emergency essential civilian couples in developing a Family Care Plan.
The Mob/Dep Specialist also is responsible for the training of Family Assistance Center personnel and directs operations when the FAC is activated.
All briefings and trainings -- FRG, SRP, Rear Detachment, etc. -- are available at all times upon request. The point of contact is the Mob/Dep Specialist at DSN 314-596-3649/3362 or commercial09641-70-596-3649/3362.
