Passports: Service members are not required to secure a passport for entrance into Korea for their duty assignment because of an existing Status of Forces Agreement (SOFA). Command Sponsored Family members who accompany the service member are required to have a government no-fee passport and any persons who plan to visit the service member are required to have a tourist passport prior to entering Korea. Service members will need copies of PCS and/or leave orders to travel into or out of Korea. Civilian employees, to include their dependents that are command sponsored, are required to have a no-fee passport for official government travel. For leisure travel while in Korea, Soldiers, Family members, Civilians, Retires, and Contractors are required to have a tourist U.S. Passport.
Defense Service Network (DSN) Dialing Instructions: The DSN is the provider of long-distance communication services for the Department of Defense (DoD). Every installation has a special DSN number and the numbers vary by world-wide location. In order to place a call using DSN, the caller must be using a military phone on an installation. Cell phones cannot dial DSN numbers. When dialing a DSN number from a United States installation to another United States installation, it is unnecessary to dial the DSN 312 area code. When dialing a DSN number to/from overseas locations, the DSN area code must be included. DSN area code for Korea is 315, dial 315 + DSN number. To call a DSN number from a Korean cell phone, use the following: 0503-3 and the last 6 digits of the DSN (0503-3**-****).
