When you move, TRICARE moves with you. No matter where you go in the world, TRICARE is there before, during and when you get to your next duty station.
There are steps you need to take to make sure changes to your TRICARE coverage go smoothly. Understand that when you move, you may have to use a different TRICARE option. Visit TRICARE Moving to learn more.
Before you move, you should take care of any routine medical needs, including immunizations, and fill your prescriptions so you have enough while traveling. If you need care during your move, visit TRICARE Getting Care When Traveling to learn what to do.
Filling prescriptions while traveling
You should refill prescriptions before traveling. But if you run out of a prescription drug while traveling, visit TRICARE Filling Prescriptions When Traveling.
Getting dental care while traveling
Getting dental care while traveling depends on your location and whether you are a service member or family member.
With permanent change of station orders, ask for a copy of your medical and dental records from your military treatment facility and the dental treatment facility. Do this at least one month before your PCS date. The MTF should also transfer a copy of your record and any family records to your new duty station or you may be able to hand carry them to your new duty station.
If you want someone else to be able to get medical or dental information on you or your family while you are moving, you need to complete a DD Form 2870, "Authorization for Disclosure of Medical or Dental Information."
For more information on getting copies of medical records, visit TRICARE Request Copies of Medical Records.
Medical Care
Dunham U.S. Army Health System (DUSAHS) is an integrated outpatient military health system that provides primary care, as well as ancillary, pharmacy, rehabilitative, and health and wellness services to authorized beneficiaries. DUSAHS is part of the Fort George G. Meade Medical Department Activity (FGGM MEDDAC) and the National Capital Region Market.
DUSAHS offers many outpatient, ambulatory healthcare services to include family medicine, pediatrics, optometry, audiology, social work and behavioral health, occupational health, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and military and clinical readiness programs (i.e., Senior Leader Sustainment Program; Family Advocacy Program; Substance Use Disorder Clinical Care Program; Exceptional Family Member Program; and Military Physical Exams to include PHAs, retirement/separation physicals, commissioning physicals, etc.). Additionally, DUSAHS offers immunization, laboratory, industrial hygiene, medical logistics and maintenance, and radiology services.
DUSAHS is the only active-duty military health system in the state of Pennsylvania. The Health System is comprised of two Military Treatment Facilities (MTFs) located on Carlisle Barracks (Dunham U.S. Army Health Clinic) and the Defense Logistics Agency, New Cumberland (Fillmore U.S. Army Health Clinic); three occupational health clinics (Carlisle Barracks, Letterkenny Army Depot, and the Defense Logistics Agency); a Troop Medical Clinic (Fort Indiantown Gap); and the Senior Leader Sustainment Program (SLSP) on Carlisle Barracks. Find out more about DUSAHS @ https://dunham.tricare.mil and follow DUSAHS on Dunham U.S. Army Health System | Facebook
Eligible beneficiaries seeking services and information for DUSAHS are encouraged to visit the Dunham Webpage to access the most recent version of the patient handbook. Contact a DUSAHS health benefits adviser at 717-245-4112 for assistance with questions about eligibility. To speak with a TRICARE customer service representative, call 877-TRICARE or 877-874-2273. To enroll at Dunham or change your Primary Care Manager, go to milConnect (osd.mil) and select Manage Health benefits.
Hours of operation are Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The clinics are closed on the Third Thursday of each month, and on federal holidays. Consult the website or call the patient appointment line to learn of any additional changes or planned closures. Our ancillary services have fluctuating hours due to ongoing construction and personnel shortages, please check our Facebook page for the most up to date daily hours of operation: Dunham U.S. Army Health System | Facebook.
DUSAHS employs secure electronic resources to allow beneficiaries to communicate with our staff and access our services. The MHS Genesis Patient Portal (DOD (health.mil)) is an appointing system that allows beneficiaries to schedule or cancel routine, follow-up and acute appointments 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To take advantage of the MHS Genesis Patient Portal, each beneficiary must sign in using either a Common Access Card (CAC) or >DS Logon - DMDC (osd.mil). The Secure Messaging provided by the patient portal allows beneficiaries to directly communicate with their healthcare team, providing options such as: appointment requests, medication refills, submitting forms or health surveys, and asking questions to Primary Care Providers. Secure Messaging is used for routine, not urgent or emergency, communications. Ask a DUSAHS staff member about this exciting and convenient feature.
If you have an emergency (threat to life, limb, or sight), call 911 or go immediately to the nearest emergency room. If you require urgent (not an emergency) care when our clinic is closed, or when traveling out of the area, call the TRICARE Nurse Advice Line at 800-TRICARE or 800-874-2273, Option 1. You will be evaluated over the phone by a registered nurse and directed to the nearest urgent care center or emergency room based on that evaluation.
