Documents to Carry When Moving to Redstone Arsenal

Ensure all essential documents are hand-carried during your move and kept in your carry-on bag. This includes multiple copies of your permanent change of station orders, marriage license, school records, immunization records, immigration certificates, birth certificates, household goods inventory, travel documentation, passports and any medical or dental records that may not transfer automatically through military channels. Keeping these items with you helps prevent delays and ensures quick access when needed during in‑processing and relocation.

Important Note for Families with Children

In Alabama, the immunization form commonly referred to as the Blue Card is officially known as the Certificate of Immunization. This document is required for enrollment in all Alabama schools, daycare centers, childcare programs, Head Start programs and colleges. Before enrolling children in local schools, ensure their vaccination records have been transferred to an official Alabama Blue Card.

You may request a Blue Card at Fox Army Health Center on Redstone Arsenal or through the Madison County Health Department.

Temporary Housing Options

Temporary lodging reservations can be made by contacting the IHG Army Hotel Candlewood Suites on Redstone Arsenal at 256‑924‑7707 or by calling the Central Reservations System at 877‑711‑TEAM. IHG/Candlewood Suites is located at Building 3440, Aerobee Rd. Priority is given to active-duty service members and War Department civilians who have orders or are on temporary duty.

There are no barracks available on Redstone Arsenal, however, the Huntsville area offers a wide selection of hotels. When booking, be sure to request the government rate.

Housing Support

• Off post - All incoming military personnel should report to the Housing Service Office before arranging off‑post housing. The Office is located at Building 3494, Honest John Rd., and can be reached at 256‑876‑6666 or DSN 746‑6666.
• On post - Information regarding on‑post family housing is available through Redstone Family Housing located at Building 302, Hughes Rd., or by calling 256‑500-4427 or 256-400-5940.

Military personnel and Department of Defense employees may request a sponsor from the gaining installation/organization. A sponsor serves as the welcoming link between new arrivals and the organization.

Whether you are Active Duty or a Department of Defense Civilian employee, you may request a welcome packet by contacting Army Community Service at 256-876-5397. Packets can be tailored with information to better serve new personnel such as school information, employment information and more. Packets may be mailed out or sent digitally.
