If you need emergency assistance, you can expect to get help from your installation, your branch of service resources. There are programs to support you in a variety of situations, including victim assistance, emergencies en route and service-specific relief societies. Below, you’ll find types of assistance, contact information, and detailed procedures and guidance to help you through any tough circumstances that you or your family may face.
Army Emergency Relief provides scholarships and financial assistance in the form of interest-free loans and grants. Eligible applicants include active-duty soldiers, dependents and retired soldiers experiencing a valid financial need (with valid military ‘active’ or ‘retired’ ID).
Apply online through their website. Online portal issues after hours or on weekends can be sent to soldierportalhelp@aerhq.org.
All other questions can be directed to the local AER officer at 256-876-5397 during normal office hours.
NOTE: Beginning January 1, 2026, the legacy blue ID cards will no longer be accepted, regardless of the printed expiration date. In order to maintain base access and use other benefits, please visit a DEERS/ID card office to obtain a new ID. You do not need to wait until the expiration date.
