Policies and rules for shipping pets vary at each installation. It’s important to understand the regulations, prohibitions and laws at your new installation before moving with a pet. Below, you’ll find installation-specific details for registering, boarding and transporting your pet.
Huntsville City and Madison County require dogs and cats to be registered. Proof of vaccination is required for registration. Microchipping your furry friend helps track them if they go astray. A leash law is enforced in city limits and in park areas. To reach the local animal control agencies call:
City of Huntsville Animal Control, 256-883-3782.Madison County Animal Control, 256-532-1519.
All animals much be microchipped and registered with the Veterinary Treatment Facility if residing on post. Registration mush be completed within three working days of moving into family housing. Call family housing about restrictions of certain breeds.
When transporting a pet, please consider their age, health and disposition. Some pets love to travel while others are stressed out by change. Keep the pets crated or on a leash until they adjust to the new location. Alabama has hot summers, so never leave your pet inside a vehicle.
Health certificates are required for outside the continental United States travel. Please visit the United States Department of Agriculture website for specific information on current requirements for each country.
