If you’ve ever considered taking your education a step further, you should look to your installation for more information and assistance. They can help you decide if receiving an advanced degree is right for you, tell you which local colleges and classes are offered and find out if you’re eligible for tuition assistance. The Voluntary Education Center, or Installation Education Center, is available to help you put together a plan to advance your education.
Military spouses can also choose to engage with an education and career coach through the DoD’s Spouse Education and Career Opportunities program, or SECO. These coaches can assist them in exploring multiple tools, resources and information to reach their educational goals. Dover AFB Airmen have many options when it comes to taking college courses. The Education Office hosts three on-base institutions, which offer in-person and online classes. Delaware State University, Southern Illinois University, and Wilmington University, have permanent offices on the third floor of Building 261, which are staffed with advisors to assist with enrollment and degree program options. Wilmington University also sponsors the National Testing Center, which provides Airmen with another opportunity to earn college credit through the College Level Testing Program and DANTES Subject Standardized Tests. Members who are interested in scheduling a CLEP or DSST exam can visit Wilmington University’s website for more information.
The base library, located in building 261, serves the Dover AFB community and provides support for on-base educational programs. The library is open to all military personnel to include active, reserve, and retired members.
Civilian employees and family members may also use the facility.
Dover AFB Military and families have a variety of options when it comes to taking college courses. Dover AFB hosts three on-base academic institutions; Delaware State University, Southern Illinois University Carbondale, and Wilmington University. In-person classes are available on base, as well as online options for many degree programs. Please visit the third floor of Building 261 to obtain more information about degree programs, term dates, and admissions to the on-base schools. For other options in the local area, Delaware Technical Community College and University of Delaware are within a commutable distance to the base (but do not offer on-base classes or office hours). Interested students should visit their campus to meet with an advisor.”
