Services are designed to focus on money management issues throughout your active-duty lifecycle and into retirement. Financial readiness educational opportunities range from basic planning to long-term investing. Check out the information below to see what’s available at your installation.
When relocating, you are eligible to draw advance pay to assist with costs associated with the permanent change of station. These repayments will be automatically withdrawn from the service member's pay monthly, which can reduce monthly income. Generally you repay this loan over 12 months with no interest.
Often, relocating costs more than originally anticipated. If you find yourself in a financial pinch, investigate loans through the Air Force Aid Society (ask about the Falcon Loan), advance pay or a personal loan from your banking institution. Avoid pay day loans and car title loans at all costs! The legal interest rate for pay day loans and title loans for military members is 36%! Becoming and remaining financially fit is critical to your success in the Air Force. Don't wait until it's too late to request assistance.
Fort Eustis: Budgeting is Vital
Whether it is your first or 21st move, there will be out-of-pocket expenses. The government covers only so much of the expense when you move. Financial preparedness is essential in maintaining a good quality of life but, when it comes to moving, expenses can be overwhelming. Budgeting comes in handy. Develop a budget strategy when you know a move is on the way.
Temporary quarters range in price for on-post billeting, The General Smalls Inn’s price per night is in the upper-$70 through mid-$80 range. If you were to be billeted off post the price range varies from $100 to $150 per night. As soon as you know a move is on the way, start to budget for these additional expenses. Personal Financial Readiness Program
The Personal Financial Readiness Program focuses on improving soldiers' and families' financial readiness and self-sufficiency. This includes the ability to function as informed consumers. Emphasis is placed on training in money management, proper use of credit, financial planning for deployment, transition and relocation, insurance, and checking account management in an attempt to prevent financial difficulties. The program involves development of debt liquidation plans, housing loss mitigation, and presentation of special subject matter dealing with major item purchases such as a home or vehicle. Individual appointments may be scheduled for budget counseling or consumer issues. To do so, please contact 757-878-3638 or go to the ACS located in Building 650.
There is no cost-of-living allowance entitlement for this area. The local area enjoys a cost of living lower than the national average.
