Assistance is commonly provided for emergency travel, auto repairs, and basic needs like food and rent. When PCSing, AFAS also has programs for unknown moving expenses and will cover childcare for 20 hours per child through a special program. All requests are considered on a case-by-case basis. Before you leave, make sure you have all important papers with you - not packed with your household goods. Important documents may include titles to homes or cars, passports, driver's licenses or identification cards, marriage licenses, birth records, shot records, school records, vet records and all military identification papers. Make sure you have important phone numbers (your new squadron orderly room, Colorado Springs Regional Command Post, TMO taxi, your sponsor, etc.). Your sponsor can be invaluable in case of an emergency while in transit.
