My Career Advancement Account
You can find more information on the My Career Advancement Account and the Military Spouse Education and Career Opportunities online.
There are limited employment opportunities for family members of military and civilian personnel assigned to mainland Japan. Both Appropriated Fund (General Schedule) and Non-Appropriated Fund positions are available. In addition, there are also a very limited number of wage grade positions available.
NAF positions are located primarily in the installation club system, child and youth services, recreation and lodging. Army and Air Force Exchange Service also hires locally from available applicants. The school system also hires administrative staff and substitutes locally.
Employment on the local economy other than teaching English requires a Japanese work permit; these are seldom issued to individuals with a Status of Forces Agreement visa.
Individuals interested in employment should seek employment opportunities online at USA Jobs or, upon arrival in the area, visit the Army Community Service’s Employment Readiness Program manager.
