School liaisons network, educate and work in partnership with local schools to provide caring adults to enhance school-age education experience. The School Liaison provides military commanders with the support necessary to coordinate and advise military parents of school-aged children on educational issues and needs and to assist in solving education-related problems.

The mission of the School Liaison is to mobilize and use community resources to reduce the impact of the mobile military life style on military school-age children and families; to implement predictable support services that assist school-age children with relocation, life transitions and achieving academic success.

School Liaisons support transitioning families in obtaining educational information and assistance from local school districts. SLO can help by: 

• Answer questions about area schools, homeschooling, special education, scholarships, transitions, and more.
• Educate parents on the local school system, policies, procedures, programs and schedules.
• Assist with school registration and transition
• Help with questions about compliance and solutions regarding the Interstate Compact on Educational Opportunity for Military Children
• Facilitate two way communication between the school and the parent/family
• Connect families with homeschool co-ops or support groups
• Provide parent education opportunities about college and career readiness, preparing for transition, and the Interstate Compact
• Get you connected to the education community in your next duty station when it is time to PCS
• Connect students to youth sponsors who can answer your child's questions from a youth's perspective
• Coordinate with SAC and YC for Homework Centers and Technology labs for use.
• Participate in Education Council and School board meetings to elevate parental issues for resolution.
• Assist with the steps to prepare for your child/children's departure from their current schools

Registering your Child for school in a new location can be confusing. We know you want to get your kids settled in their new schools as quickly as possible. That’s why we work hard to help you identify local schools that fit best for you and your family. eKnowledge Corporation offers donated SAT/ACT preparation programs for eligible military-connected students.

Available to any Students taking college classes, including LSEC, with any of the eight colleges/universities in the Fort Riley Consortium. This facility is staffed by Barton CC employees.
