Important Check-in information: Before arranging any temporary lodging, please check into Navy Gateway Inns and Suites. Service members, regardless of marital status, must ensure they receive either an endorsement of their orders or a certificate of non-availability from NGIS. The endorsement or CNA, along with lodging receipts, must be submitted to Personnel Support Detachment for reimbursement of Temporary Lodging Expenses on your travel claim. Failure to provide these documents may hinder your entitlement to reimbursement. For information on NGIS worldwide, call toll free 877-628-9233.
The Navy Lodge is accepting reservations: “Check-in procedures”: Make lodging arrangements in advance at Navy Gateway Inn and Suites. Obtain a wavier if you and your family members cannot be accommodated. Then you can contact the Navy Lodge at 860-446-3119 to make lodging arrangements. If so, you must provide them the waiver in order to be reimbursed. The Navy will allow up to two pets provided the weight of each pet does not exceed 70 pounds. Your sponsor can provide information on kennel and boarding arrangements for pets that exceed the capacity of the Navy Lodge. The Chalet Hotel Groton, Ct. is open seven days a week, 24 hours a day. Located in: Naval Submarine Base New London, Ct. Address: Bldg. 532 Lagarto Ave, Groton, CT 06340; The Chalet is a standard business class hotel with TVs and small refrigerators. Some rooms are equipped with in-room coffee makers. (no mask requirement; however, the Chalet follows the Guidelines and protocols set by Sub Base New London). If you get married, have a newborn child, or adopt a child before you complete your PCS move. You MUST inform your Chain Of Command, and follow the procedures exactly as you are given them. The military WILL NOT Pay for travel and housing of your family members if you do not follow proper procedures. Your Service Record Page 2 MUST have all family members recorded before executing your PCS Orders. Your first stop after the wedding should be the nearest military ID card issuing facility to enroll in DEERS, the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS). Once enrolled, you can access military benefits, including health care and health insurance. To enroll in DEERS, gather the necessary documents, such as a Birth Certificate, Social Security Card, and two forms of Identification, such as a Driver’s license, and school or work ID. Other things to know: 1. Obtain your military identification card at the installation ID facility.2. Memorize your and your spouse’s Social Security number.3. Update your driver’s license and Social Security card if you change your name.4. Understand your Service member’s pay and benefits.

Now, if you get married before joining the military, this tax-free housing allowance begins on the very first day of active duty (the first day of basic training). If one waits until after joining the military to get married, the housing allowance becomes effective on the date of the marriage.
