Deployment can be a challenging phase of the military lifecycle, but it’s important to know that you don’t have to go through it alone. The military provides a variety of resources and support programs — ranging from educational briefings to morale calls — for your loved ones, children and service members to ease the stress of deployment. Military members may be assigned to a specific installation but support may come from local communities, Yellow Ribbon events or the installation itself.
Although Schriever Space Force Base does not deploy its members as often as most Air Force bases, we do provide readiness support to our deploying members and their families. Our Military and Family Readiness Center Readiness Noncommissioned Officer provides pre-deployment readiness briefings by appointment or walk in Mon-Fri 0800-1600. During the pre-deployment brief, spouses and family members are added to a Sunshine Roster. This roster allows us to keep in direct contact with our deployed families and ensure that their needs are being met while their loved ones are on deployment. Our Readiness NCO hosts a deployed family event once a month so all deployed family members can enjoy time with one another outside of their regular workdays. We try to alternate events so that sometimes they are directed more for the spouses only while other times they are for the entire family (Boo at the Zoo, Sky Sox baseball games, Painting with a Twist, spa nights, Build A Bear, etc.). Key Spouses and mentors, who are official representatives of each unit, are also invited to these events to provide information, support and outreach to their families.
When a member returns from deployment, they can make an appointment or walk in Mon-Fri 0800-1600 with our Readiness NCO for a post-deployment brief. For more information on deployment support, contact the M&FRC front desk at 719-567-3920 or DSN 560-3920.” Or MSgt Michael Helsdingen directly at 719-567-1280.
