Transition Assistance Program: TAP prepares separating, retiring and demobilizing service members and their families with the information, skills and knowledge necessary for a successful transition from military to civilian life. The first step in your transition process is to complete the initial assessment worksheet which determines the path and requirements of your transition process. Each center is staffed to provide personalized assistance for all your transition-related needs.
Effective Nov. 21, 2012, Public Law 101-510, H.R. 2433 and Executive Order 13518 mandates all separating or retiring servicemembers complete newly established components of the Transition Assistance Program (TGPS) in addition to Pre-Separation Counseling, DD Form 2648. It is mandatory that separating/retiring members contact the Military & Family Readiness Center at 719-576-3920 to ensure requirements are completed, according to established timelines, at least 90 days prior to the member’s separation/retirement date or the member will not be authorized to start PTDY or terminal leave.
**Retirees can attend the mandated workshops 2 year prior to their retirement date; Separatees can attend these mandated workshops 1 year prior to their separation date. Do not wait until orders are cut. Attend these workshops as soon as possible as they must be complete 90 days prior to your separation or retirement date. **
Military Tuition Assistance Program: The program is available to active duty, National Guard and Reserve Component service members. While the decision to pursue a degree may be a difficult one personally, TA can lessen your financial concerns considerably, since it now pays up to 100% of tuition expenses for semester hours costing $250 or less.
Courses and degree programs may be academic or technical and can be taken from two- or four-year institutions on-installation, off-installation or by distance learning. An accrediting body recognized by the Department of Education must accredit the institution. Your service branch pays your tuition directly to the school. Service members need to first check with an education counselor for the specifics involving TA by visiting their local installation education office or by going online to a virtual education center. Tuition assistance may be used for the following programs:

The Colorado Department of Labor and Employment (CDLE) helps people who have lost their jobs by providing temporary wage replacement through Unemployment Insurance benefits. Unemployment benefits are funded by employers and may be paid to any worker who has lost a job through no fault of their own and meets the eligibility requirements set forth by the law. Unemployment Insurance helps workers pay their bills and contributes to the economic stability of the state.
The initial processing time for a claim usually takes four to six weeks, though complicated claims may take longer. If it is determined that you qualify to receive payment, you are paid every week. The first payment you may receive is postponed by one week’s worth of payment, called the waiting week.
You should apply for unemployment insurance benefits right after you have completed your last day of work. Please file your claim as soon as possible to avoid delays in the processing of your claim and any potential payment you may receive. For more information please visit: https://cdle.colorado.gov/unemployment
