Transition Assistance Program: TAP prepares separating, retiring and demobilizing service members and their families with the information, skills and knowledge necessary for a successful transition from military to civilian life. The first step in your transition process is to complete the initial assessment worksheet which determines the path and requirements of your transition process. Each center is staffed to provide personalized assistance for all your transition-related needs.
Effective Nov. 21, 2012, Public Law 101-510, H.R. 2433 and Executive Order 13518 mandates all separating or retiring servicemembers complete newly established components of the Transition Assistance Program (TGPS) in addition to Pre-Separation Counseling, DD Form 2648. It is mandatory that separating/retiring members contact the Military & Family Readiness Center at 719-576-3920 to ensure requirements are completed, according to established timelines, at least 90 days prior to the member’s separation/retirement date or the member will not be authorized to start PTDY or terminal leave.
**Retirees can attend the mandated workshops 2 year prior to their retirement date; Separatees can attend these mandated workshops 1 year prior to their separation date. Do not wait until orders are cut. Attend these workshops as soon as possible as they must be complete 90 days prior to your separation or retirement date. **
Commander's Key Supoort Program (CKSP): The CKSP is an official unit/family program designed to enhance readiness and establish a sense of Air and Space Force community. The Key Spouse Program was rebranded the Commander's Key Support Program (CKSP) in March 2024. Volunteers will be identified as Key Support Liaisons (KSL). The introduction of KSLs provides commanders opportunities to strengthen support as they widen the pool of program volunteers. While spouses are central to the CKSP and are highly encouraged to participate, volunteers may also include other family members as well as military or civilian members attached to the unit, provided unit member support does not detract from assigned mission or duty requirements.
This is a commander program that promotes partnerships with unit leadership (commander and first sergeant), families, the Schriever Military and Family Readiness Center, and on- and off-base community helping agencies. The program has been standardized across the Air Force to address the needs of all military families with special emphasis on support to families across the deployment cycle. Almost every unit on Schriever SFB has a Key Support Liaison who assists families with moving to and from the installation, community adaptation, employment, deployment and many other personal and work/life issues that may arise. Key Support Liaison's are our link between the military and civilian worlds. If you have not had contact with your key spouse, please call the Schriever M&FRC at 719-567-3920 for more information.
Volunteer Information (VI) and Referral Services Program (RSP): VI & RSP is available by calling or visiting M & FRC. Our center partners with on and off-base agencies that provide information for individuals interested in volunteering in the local community. Our center hosts a volunteer fair that provides individuals and squadrons with information as to how to get involved in the local area.
