It's important to have a solid financial plan for you and your family, especially during a deployment or permanent change of station. The M&FRC can help you plan and prepare.
The Personal Financial Management Program provides individual consultations and monthly workshops on a variety of topics. Financial, educational and resource materials are also available to the community.
During a PCS, getting an idea of how much your move will cost you and how much will be reimbursed to you will be helpful. The first step to any financial plan, whether it’s PCSing or getting settled in your new area, is to have a financial goal. This could include short-term, intermediate, and long-term goals. One-on-one consultations are available for budgeting, discussing the Thrift Savings Plan, credit reports, investing, home buying and retirement planning.
Colorado Springs and the Pikes Peak region have a higher cost of living than the national average. You will want to evaluate your salary/housing allowance when determining whether to buy or rent and what size house or apartment you can afford. You can also research the average cost for utilities at the place you plan to live to insure it is in your overall budget. Other items vary in costs, but typically, all goods and services in Colorado Springs are above the national average.
Meeting financial obligations and goals is a common objective of every individual and family. There are base programs that have been established to help you budget and manage your finances to minimize the impact of higher prices in the area.
