Financial Assistance

Financial guidance is offered to those experiencing money management difficulties or for those who want to be in control of their finances.

The Military and Family Readiness Center’s Personal Financial Readiness Program offers confidential and individualized financial planning assistance, workshops and classes on a recurring basis to all service members, retirees, Department of Defense civilians and their families with regard to learning the principles and concepts of personal financial management. Information and assistance is available in areas such as military pay and allowances, goal setting, saving, debt management, car buying, credit card management, Veterans Affairs home loans, credit management, financial planning, understanding the Thrift Savings Plan, investment fundamentals, mutual funds and more.

There are also trained staff members available to assist with a variety of financial goals and concerns, including identity theft prevention and credit report reviewing. Relocating is a time when finances can become limited. Military members and their families should contact their current M&FRC or gaining M&FRC upon arrival for assistance in addressing their financial concerns and goals.

The Military and Family Readiness Center's (M&FRC) Personal Financial Readiness Program empowers service members, retirees, DoD civilians, and their families to achieve their financial goals. We offer confidential financial planning assistance, recurring workshops, and classes covering a wide range of topics, including military pay, debt management, saving, investing, and understanding VA home loans and the Thrift Savings Plan. We also provide support for identity theft prevention and credit report review.

During relocation, service members and families are encouraged to contact their current or gaining M&FRC for personalized financial support.

The Air Force Aid Society (AFAS) provides financial assistance in the form of an interest-free loan or a grant. The purpose is to help stabilize a member’s emergency financial situation to solve a problem so the member can focus on the Air Force/Space Force mission. A budget is required, and payment is made directly to the Service Member by Zelle or Bank ACH.

While planning financially for a permanent change in station is crucial, the AFAS offers emergency financial assistance on a case-by-case basis. If a financial emergency arises en route to your new duty station:

• Applying for Assistance: Visit www.afas.org to register and start the application process.
• Emergency Travel: For emergency travel situations, contact the American Red Cross Service to the Armed Forces at 1-877-272-7337.
• Multi-Service Assistance: The AFAS can connect you with other relief agencies (Army Emergency Relief, Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society, Coast Guard Mutual Assistance).

Child Care for PCS (CCFPCS)
Eligible members with a Permanent Change of Station (PCS), Retirement, Palace Chase, or Separation from service order will apply for funding through the AFAS portal at https://portal.afas.org. Approved funds will be directly deposited into the member’s designated bank account via Zelle or ACH to cover allowable childcare expenses.

• $200 per dependent child up to age 12 (not to exceed $1,000 per family) will be provided to eligible members
• Funds can be used for the following childcare providers:
  • Base Child Development/Youth Centers offering a monthly GPAB event with a minimum of 8 children in attendance
  • Family Child Care (FCC) provider homes at assigned installations
  • Day Care Centers or Day Care Providers on or off the installation
