Resources are available to help you understand and manage your finances, including one-on-one financial counseling to assist you and your family with financial readiness. Services are designed to focus on money management issues throughout your active-duty lifecycle and into retirement. Financial readiness educational opportunities range from basic planning to long-term investing. Check out the information below to see what’s available at your installation.
Financial guidance is offered to those experiencing money management difficulties or for those who want to be in control of their finances.
The Military and Family Readiness Center’s Personal Financial Readiness Program offers confidential and individualized financial planning assistance, workshops and classes on a recurring basis to all service members, retirees, Department of Defense civilians and their families with regard to learning the principles and concepts of personal financial management. Information and assistance is available in areas such as military pay and allowances, goal setting, saving, debt management, car buying, credit card management, Veterans Affairs home loans, credit management, financial planning, understanding the Thrift Savings Plan, investment fundamentals, mutual funds and more.
There are also trained staff members available to assist with a variety of financial goals and concerns, including identity theft prevention and credit report reviewing. Relocating is a time when finances can become limited. Military members and their families should contact their current M&FRC or gaining M&FRC upon arrival for assistance in addressing their financial concerns and goals.
There are many hidden costs when moving. To ensure you are prepared, you may discuss moving and financial preparedness with a Personal Financial Advisor at the Airman and Family Readiness Center. The Personal Financial Readiness program offers a full range of education, training, counseling and information on money issues. Computer programs are available to help set up a budget, determine a debt repayment schedule and identify financial needs.
The Air Force Aid Society has supported the Air Force mission by providing worldwide emergency assistance, sponsoring education assistance programs and offering an array of base community enhancement programs that improve the quality of life of airmen and their families as well as retirees of other branches of service.
Although military members who are notified of a new assignment are encouraged to plan financially for their move, the AFAS may be able to provide emergency financial assistance on a case-by-case basis if a financial emergency arises. If an emergency occurs en route to your next duty station, contact the Air Force Aid Society by going to www.afas.org military members are encouraged to contact the American Red Cross Service to the armed forces for emergency travel situations at 1-877-272-7337. The Air Force Aid Society can act as a liaison between you and the various relief agencies (AER, NMCRS and CGMA) they will have to select "standard loan application.

A Falcon Loan is up to $1,500.00 and does not require a budget to be completed, but supporting documentation must be attached. If you are selecting more than $1500.00, you must select Standard Loan and complete the budget. Once submitted a confirmation and the next steps will be provided through email. Please establish a “Zelle” ETF prior to applying if you are requesting funds to be put into your account.
During a permanent change of station move, Air Force members with children are authorized up to 20 free hours of child care per child within 60 days of departure from the losing base and/or arrival at the base. To receive a program voucher, bring a copy or your PCS orders to the M&FRC (at your gaining or losing base). Military members can register for base child care to include family child care prior to arrival at the Military Childcare website.
